The past year has been a difficult time for us all, so we at RUOE would like to reflect on 2021 and remember the highs and lows of the year, and how we met the challenges the year presented.
We continued working alongside Wolves 4 Change to reduce youth gang involvement in the Wolverhampton area. In November, we held a session at The Regus Building to raise awareness for gang exploitation and county lines, a growing danger faced by young people in the UK.
This was the year we hosted our first coffee morning at Colton Hills Community School. These coffee mornings provide us with a chance to hear from the local community and what they think we could do to improve our services, as well as give parents an opportunity to have a chat and get to know us.
In August, RUOE was visited by Labour Party leader Keir Starmer while on a visit to Wolverhampton. While he was here, he learned what it is we do to keep local young people out of gangs, and he congratulated the company and its staff for their hard work.
Throughout the year, we continued to organise our holidays and activity clubs, as well as our other programmes such as confidence-building, sensory support and family support, dealing with each challenge the covid-19 pandemic presented and striving to deliver the best possible support.
RUOE has also helped more young workers find employment and develop their career skills this year, with several of our own staff being workers using the Kickstart Scheme to start careers in their chosen field. These workers would like to share their experiences with the company and what their time working with RUOE has taught them so far:
"Since joining RUOE I’ve learned how to work collaboratively alongside my colleagues. By valuing others' opinions and inputs into marketing projects and events, this has allowed me to become confident in myself at being a great team player and helped me develop a great partnership with everyone in my team." - Jasleen
"Whilst working at RUOE I have learned how to develop my organisational skills. RUOE has taught me how to manage and prioritise my weekly tasks, which has helped me to tackle my workload more efficiently. I have also developed practical workplace skills such as composing professional emails and working as a team on a shared task." - Thomas
"Joining RUOE I have been able to utilise my passion for drawing and art as well as cope with tight deadlines and manage my time effectively. Effectively managing my time has allowed me to cope under pressure whilst be creative; which are transferable skills I can take away with me. " - Josh
"Since joining RUOE I have been able to experience a new style of youth work, comparing my experiences to THE WAY YOUTH ZONE and scouts, being a part of this team has brought me closer to understanding autism and how better to deal or handle aggressive outbursts. RUOE has let me build different team relationships and has boosted my confidence more than I thought it could go.” - Chris
